Quarantining, even when you continue to work from home, gives you a lot of time to think. I am thinking about getting another Standard Poodle puppy.
Conor, my youngest, is wrapping up his senior year at Ponte Vedra High School and heading off to college where he will live in a dorm the first year.
I am feeling an emptiness that I can’t quite figure out how to fill (well grandchildren would
probably help, but no one is in any hurry in my family and really…no rush guys AlSoCo…really!).
The downsizing started a few years ago after my first daughter, Alexandra started at FSU. After getting my real estate license, sold our North Island home in Marsh Landing, our family moved into our smaller, and closer to the beach, Jacksonville Beach home. I purchased another “remodel project” home in Ponte Vedra Beach so middle daughter Sofia, and son Conor could attended the seriously awesome Ponte Vedra High School.
Now both will be attending UNF. Gone. (Play sad music)
Now what? What are we “empty nesters” supposed to be doing when the last of our children leave the nest? Will I always feel this gap?
I shall continue to divert my attention…pivot I shall, but how?
Seriously thinking about another downsize, so many friends and clients are enjoying the simplified condo lifestyle…another remodel perhaps?
Always an advertising girl, I am fascinated by continuing to learn better ways to utilize my advertising investment for clients’ results. The digital world offers a plethora of ever amazing ways to connect…learning for life is a must.
There is my real estate work too…which I love; connecting buyers and sellers to their new beach homes…growing the business is very fulfilling when work is your passion.
But, after raising three children, spontaneous cuddles, helping with homework, hearing about new friends, teachers, and daily reports about all of the exciting interests and activities of those you love the most…remodeling, learning, and working (even with a passion) is not the same.
Ten years ago when we brought Gabrielle home. Our Standard Poodle puppy was a black bundle of fur and sweetness. The whole family claimed her, doted on her, and she became one of us. The memories of squealing children and a leaping poodle running around our front yard pond in Marsh Landing are some of my fondest.
Yes, along with the downsizing, continued pursuit of the best digital ad solutions and the fulfillment of connecting families to their new beach homes, a new Standard Poodle puppy could be exactly what Gabrielle and I need to fill this gap.
What ideas or other ways have you successfully filled the empty nester gap? I am open to exploring at this pivot point in life.
